Review – Resident Evil 2 Remake

Resident Evil 2 has always had a place in my mind as it was one of the first horror games I played on a games console.  Even today i remember shooting frantically as Tyrant came closer oblivious to the swarm of bullets I was drilling into him.

That said I am pleased to say with the remake the nostalgia is somewhat restored when you encounter the sod on here.

The remake is everything i’d hope it would be and more.  From the first glimpses of Racoon City Police station all the way to the final boss. While writing this I havent long started Claire’s story but have finished Leon’s. However while reviewing I can say for a certainty the graphics upgrade is welcome and the game for me has ran smooth.

The inclusion of extra content is nice although I am yet to try it out. The zombies realism is fantastic to the point where if I see one not moving I am expecting the worst before proceeding. The game brings out that tension you really do expect and welcome from a horror video game. Its nice to see that in just over 20 years the story of Resident Evil 2 is still as pleasing now as it was back in 1998.

The game is also quite challenging with regards to ammo. my playthrough with Leon was on normal mode and I did find at the beginning you do have to think about your shots. It did come to a point where I had about seven zombies overunning the west side of the police station because i had not been conserving ammo as such.

One enemy though I was looking forward to seeing again was the Lickers and I wasnt disapointed. They are brilliant in HD. The fact theve made them so you can sneak past now due to them being blind. (I dont remember being able to do so in the original. Please correct me if  i  am wrong.)

I dont have any bad things to say at this point for what Ive played of the Resident Evil 2 remake except if you havent picked it up yet, then you need to do so.

I would happily give it a 9 out of 10 for its awesome graphics, steady gameplay that creates tension and excitement that few current gen horror games fail to do.

I can only hope Capcom decide to remake Resident Evil 3 now as Nemesis in HD would be absolutely epic!!
